MSG just let me be for pete's sake

Yes, yes, yes....what's the fat chick ranting on about now you say? Well my partner brought home the new pringles select for me to try yesterday. One bag was sweet potato/cinnamon (yeah , weird I know) and the other was sundried tomatoe (yum!). I immediately looked at the ingredients list (because that's just what I do), and couldn't believe the amount of crap they had. I mean, oat flour, rice flour, wheat, soy? Why can't they just take a bunch of potatoes, peel them, run them through a slicer, bake them 'till crispy perfection, sprinkle them with seasoning, and throw them in a bag? Is that so hard? And why oh why put MSG in some of your products and not all? The sundried tomatoe chips have MSG and the sweet potatoe ones don't. Explain that.

For those of you who don't yet know what MSG is (maybe you were too young during the MSG buzz years) MSG stands for Monosodium Glutamate, a white powder substance used as a flavour enhancer, mainly in processed foods and Asian cuisine. When I wikied MSG, I found out that it's an amino acid derived from things like mushrooms, tomatoes, seaweed, and some fermented soy products. Can't be all that bad now can it? Think again my friends, Vodka is derived from potatoes and it can be very toxic, wine is derived from innocent little grapes and it can too be very toxic. Ethanol is derived from sweet looking canola seeds and it can do lots and lots of damage if you ingest it. So don't go around saying: "yay! MSG isn't so bad after all" just yet. This is a very powerful substance with toxic effects. Many people get intense allergic reactions when ingesting it.

I decided to have the sun dried tomato chips anyway. I had taken my MMS about an hour earlier and felt great. Then about 30 mins after eating the chips, I was overcome with nausea, my face went beet red, I began getting chills, shaking, feeling disoriented a bit, basically sick inside. This went on for hours, then my hives and itchy skin came on. I had no choice I had to take a benadryl to cancel the histamine response of my immune system. Plus double up on my hydrocortisone dose because of the adrenal insufficiency I was born with. Then went to bed. Had a great night sleep. Woke up this morning with diarrhea. MMS sure does work at getting rid of toxins uh? I have never ever felt like that ingesting MSG before. I've always been one of the lucky ones in that aspect. But now that I'm taking my MMS everyday, I'll think twice before eating chemicals. If you still don't believe me...

Here are some examples of what MSG can do:

  • A 2002 report from researchers at Hirosaki University in Japan found rats fed on diets high in MSG suffered eye damage. Lead researcher Hiroshi Ohguro said the findings might explain why, in eastern Asia, there is a high rate of normal-tension glaucoma.
  • Monosodium glutamate has been shown to indirectly cause obesity in lab rats by downregulating hypothalamic appetite suppression and, thus, increasing the amount of food the lab rats consumed
But don't take my word for it. For more information on the devasting effects of Monosodium Glutamate, read Dr. Russell Blaylock's article or visit Healthdangers.com. The MSG debate has been going on since the 70's, and we now know it's not a necessary ingredient. So what's keeping it from being removed from all foods? There's a million other ways of seasoning potatoe chips people...just don't pick that one!
